Co-Developer
As co-developer of Dockside Green, Vancity brings over 60 years’ history of helping to build strong communities. Climate change is a global problem with serious implications for our health, our economy and our future. Vancity supports community leaders and partners like Dockside Green, who are working to find solutions to climate change. It also encourages its members to take action on climate change, and it is committed to reduce its own greenhouse gas emissions to be carbon neutral by 2010.
Vancity is Canada's largest credit union. Formed in 1945, today it has $12.3 billion in assets, 356,000 members and 50 branches throughout Greater Vancouver, the Fraser Valley and Victoria. Vancity and its subsidiary companies are guided by a commitment to corporate social responsibility, and to improve the quality of life in the communities where we live and work.
Under its triple bottom line business model, Vancity is driven, not only by a commitment to financial success, but to economic, environmental and social sustainability as well. The company focuses on the following areas: access to financial services, strong non-profits and cooperatives, successful social enterprises, and climate change solutions.
Vancity’s vision to achieve positive social and environmental change and its focus on
community leadership is achieved through a generous grants program that shares 30 per cent of Vancity’s annual profits with its communities and members. Economic sustainability is also a key pillar to Vancity’s success as the organization works with community partners to build sustainable non profits, through its support of social enterprises through initiatives such as the Social Enterprise Fund that helps non profit organizations achieve economic independence by running businesses to support their missions.
Through a variety of programs, services and partnerships, Vancity has emerged as a community leader – standing proud and standing out from the competition by building a reputation for being passionate, courageous and dedicated to finding creative and sustainable community solutions. This has translated into a reputation for trust and respect that has allowed Vancity to grow its brand and its business and position itself
as a powerful force in BC’s financial services landscape. A percentage of annual profits go to fund programs and projects that contribute to social justice, economic self-reliance, and environmental responsibility.
