Joe Van Belleghem Re-Elected to Board of Directors US Green Building Council

December 19, 2005, Victoria, BC –Joe Van Belleghem, a partner with Windmill Developments and co-developer of Victoria’s Dockside Green, has been re-elected to the board of directors of the US Green Building Council.

The U.S. Green Building Council is North America’s foremost coalition of leaders from across the building industry working to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work.  Elected to another three-year term, Van Belleghem is also a founder and director of the Canada Green Building Council.

Van Belleghem is responsible for green building development strategies and the BuildGreen Consulting arm of Windmill Developments.  As well as being the co-developer of Dockside Green, he was the development consultant for the Vancouver Island Technology Park (VITP), a high-tech park in Victoria, British Columbia. It was awarded the gold level certification by the United States Green Building Council under their Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) program, making it the first LEED® certified building in Canada. The project was also awarded the 2002 BOMA BC Earth Award and the UDI Sustainable Development Award. Van Belleghem is committed to the ongoing development, education and promotion of environmentally, socially and financially responsible green building developments.

Co-developed with Vancity Enterprises, Dockside Green will be a socially vibrant, ecologically restorative, economically sound and just community, set on Victoria’s working harbour. It will be a distinct collection of beautifully designed live, work, play and rest spaces designed to enhance the health and well being of both people and ecosystems, both now and in the future
