Triton Underwater Wood Finds New Home at Dockside Green
Wood Harvested from BC Reservoir by Triton’s Sawfish™ Technology Used in Construction of Eco-Friendly Townhouses in Victoria
Victoria, BC February 8, 2007 – Triton Logging, the world leaders in underwater harvesting and environmental wood products, delivered its first shipment of award-winning eco-wood to Dockside Green, Victoria’s world-class sustainable mixed-use development, this week.
This shipment of certified wood products is being used in the construction of Dockside Green townhouses, part of the second phase of development in the high-profile project on Victoria’s inner harbour.
The wood was harvested by Triton’s Sawfish™ technology from flooded forests beneath Lois Lake, a reservoir created almost eighty years ago near Powell River, BC.
Dockside Green selected Triton’s wood for both its environmental benefits and unique story. Using its patented remotely operated submersible, the Sawfish™, Triton is able to economically harvest the vast quantities of trees flooded by reservoirs in the past century. Ignored and forgotten, these forests are still perfectly preserved by cold, fresh water and represent an important supplement to land-based wood supplies throughout the world.
“Dockside Green is committed to sourcing the clearest environmental product choices, of which Triton wood is undoubtedly one of the best,” says Joe Van Belleghem of Windmill Developments, who is co-developing Dockside Green with Vancity. “Given the opportunity to also work with a globally-recognized local company with such a compelling story, we were committed to specifying Triton wood in Dockside Green.”
“Dockside Green represents the epitome of green building excellence and Triton is proud to have been selected as a supplier,” says Jim Hayhurst, Triton’s Vice President of Marketing/Communications. “We are committed, along with Dockside, to providing consumers with clear, uncompromised environmental living choices and to focus the world’s attention on Canada, BC and Vancouver Island as centres of innovation for green building and sustainability.”
While the townhouse phase is the first element of Dockside Green to use the underwater wood, Van Belleghem and Hayhurst say the very positive response to its inclusion is inspiring the two companies to look for future opportunities to include Triton products in this and other Windmill projects.
