First Nations Roots

Up until 1912, the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations lived on the land we now know as Dockside Green.  As we came to understand the significance of this fact, the development partners immediately sought to include these local Coast Salish nations in the planning for Dockside Green. With respect and honoring those that lived on the land before us, an awareness and educational process was initiated that resulted in numerous meetings, dialogue and ceremonies. One result of this learning and dialogue is our Signed MOU on Cooperation and Communication[1] (Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation and Communication) that is on this site.

The learning and awareness building continues as we strengthen the relationships between Dockside Green and the local Coast Salish First Nations.
