Buying local, and supporting businesses with ethical and sustainable business practices is an important aspect of the green movement. Dockside Green recently signed contracts with two much loved local businesses that will move to the Dockside site next year.
Cliff Lear is a well-known Victoria baker and business person with a long commitment to organic and sustainable food practices as the owner/operator of House Breads. He will open a bakery and storefront operation at Dockside Green.
Dockside Green seems like the most progressive thing happening on all sorts of different levels. I admire the thinking that's going into the project, using land that was otherwise unused, and mixing in social and environmental values into the planning and land use. It's a forward-thinking project that should bring in forward-thinking people and forward-thinking values that I think are so needed at this point
Ryan Taylor is owner/operator of renowned Victoria coffee spot Caffe Fantastico, and sells only organically grown, fair-trade coffee. The niche of customers who demand nothing less is growing, he expects his decision to re-locate one of his two cafes to Dockside Green will put him into the heart of that niche.
Dockside Green represents environmental and social values that are important to me, and I've always tried to express them. It hasn't always been easy, but people are catching on. I am excited to be going to Dockside Green and doing business in a community that cares about the same sorts of things I care about as a business.
