Vehicle Sharing
In partnership with the Victoria Car Share Co-operative, Dockside Green is offering a vehicle-sharing program to all residential and commercial units. Exceeding the LEED®™ requirement and a recent traffic reduction study recommending one shared vehicle for every 150 residences, Dockside Green plans to provide a total of ten vehicles - one for every 90 residences. Dockside Green plans to investigate the feasibility of introducing electric bicycles into the program.
Launched in 1997, the Victoria Car Share Co-operative is Victoria's provider of transportation choice and mobility without car ownership. Located in the municipalities of Victoria, Oak Bay, and Saanich, their fleet of 14 vehicles is shared by around 180 members. As the membership grows, cars will be added to more neighbourhoods. Dockside Green is the most recent addition.
Car sharing contributes to urban health by reducing traffic congestion and noise, lowering green house gas emissions, and by creating more vibrant cityscape with people, rather than cars at the core. It also reduces demand for on-street parking and allows for more green-space.
Dockside Green Homeowners details and benefits include:
- No initial cost to become a co-op member.
- Convenient web-booking and telephone service that allows you access to a city wide fleet of cars and trucks 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- 10 Car Share Co-op vehicles available right on site upon the completion of the Dockside Green community, at both Synergy and Balance.
- Each resident must activate their trial membership directly with the Victoria Car Share Co-op. Join in 3 easy steps:
- Qualify as a safe driver
- Attend a brief orientation
- Sign a membership agreement
- Once you activate your trial membership, pay normal Co-op fees when you use a car, a $10/month admin fee, and taxes. That's all - gas and insurance are included. Current rates* are:
- $0.40/km
- $2.68/hour, maximum $33.60/day for the 1st day and $28.35 for additional days
- If a residential occupant sells their condo before the end of two year trial period, the remaining time will be allotted to the subsequent occupant.
- 90 days before the end of two year trial period, the Car Share Co-op will give you the opportunity to upgrade to a full Co-op membership.
- 2 people per residential unit are eligible for the trial membership.
- Trial memberships do not include Co-op voting rights.
