Alternative Modes of Transportation

Car Share Program

In partnership with the Victoria Car Share Co-operative, Dockside Green offers a vehicle-sharing program. Exceeding the LEED® requirement and a recent traffic reduction study recommending one shared vehicle for every 150 residences, we plan to provide a total of ten vehicles – one for every 90 residences, As well, we plan to investigate the feasibility of introducing electric bicycles into the program.

For more information on the car share program, visit the Victoria Car Share Co-op website.

Harbour Ferry

Hop on the Harbour Ferry to get to a variety of stops along the Inner and Upper Harbour. Runs March to October from 9am - 9pm.

Mini-Transit

To further reduce traffic, a mini-transit van is planned to be operated to and from key points downtown as well as the Save-On-Foods commercial shopping centre off of Bay Street. The buses will hold 20 to 25 people and will run during the day and possibly at night depending on demand.

BC Transit

Bus routes will be posted on the Dockside Green community website and we will work with BC Transit to try and increase ridership among residents.

Bicycle

In accordance with LEED® requirements, bicycle racks and shower facilities will be provided for 5% of all commercial, office and industrial occupants, with numerous secured racks throughout the site to allow for easy movement within the community. Bicycle racks will also be supplied for each residential units.

Preservation and/or Enhancement of the Galloping Goose Trail

The Galloping Goose Trail, an important regional connector, runs through Dockside Green along Harbour Road, offering key pedestrian and bicycle linkages south to the city centre (via the Johnston Street Bridge) and north through Point Ellice Park. The Dockside portion of the trail includes a designated bike path, enabling unimpeded cycling in either direction, as well as a generously proportioned pedestrian promenade, ideally suited to strolling or jogging.

Pedestrian

Dockside Green is designed to be very pedestrian-friendly with sidewalks along both sides of Harbour Road and an intricate trail system crisscrossing the development. The trails are surrounded by artful landscaping, tranquil water features and relaxing benches.
